Those of you who have ~~stalked~~ followed my blogging over the years will have noticed that I regularly take shots of flowers.
This is for a few good reasons:-
1. I've usually paid for them and want to enjoy them for more than the week they are supposed to last
2. They're sit still (usually)
3. They are colourful and come in interesting shapes and sizes
4. If the weather is too cold/windy/wet/British they make a good subject to fall back on

I've been browsing through some of the shots taken last year that I hadn't had a chance to delete/edit and came across this one taken at Chessington World of Adventures.
There's an enclosure where you can feed a flock of Lorikeets from small cups of nectar... once you get over the initial fear of hungry birds flying at you (and try to forget any references to Hitchcock films!) it's a great chance to get up close and personal with these vividly colourful birds.

Birmingham's German Christmas Market

Back in December last year we took a trip to Birminghams German Christmas Market - apparently the largest outdoor Christmas Market in the country!
We arrived on a particularly busy Saturday (The Clothes Show was also on in B'ham at the time too) and proceeded to be carried along by the crowd

This was an updated version of a shot I took back in 2007 (http://www.particular-pics.blogspot.com/#!/2007/12/beach.html) > I don't think it's as successful as the first shot, but it still made me smile when I spotted it.

On a cold and wet October morning, we headed down to the beach in Skegness, for the kids to play around and the dog to run off some of her energy....it had been a long time since I had been quite so cold and wet.
For a few years now I have been a fan of David Nightingale at Chromasia.com, in part for his skills at transforming 'found' objects left behind on beaches into great images, so whenever I get the chance I try to attempt the same. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I'm not saying that this one 'works' but there was something about it I liked when I saw it on the screen, so I figured I drop it in here for your delight and delectation...

p.s. I picked it up and binned it afterwards...I can't stand people leaving litter on beaches :( !

Apologies for the lack of recent posting... lots of things to do and then I just kinda fell out of the habit.
Anyway, New Year is coming up and with it another chance of a fresh start. So this year I'm aiming to write a bit more along with the pictures themselves, as well as posting a little more regularly too.
This shot was from a trip to Lincoln Cathedral back in October. The building itself is immense and I didn't have the time to do it justice but I thought that this shot gave a glimpse of what skilled craftsmen can do when they put their minds to it...

Last month I had the opportunity to help out with a world record attempt. As a part of their rag week fund-raising, Nexus college decided it would be a good idea to try to break the world record for the longest continuous football match, previously standing at 60 hours. Crazily someone decided they would attempt to break the 72 hour barrier, and of course someone stepped up with a large sponsorship conditional on them reaching that target. No pressure guys!

(And yes, they did amazingly make it to 72 hours! - the documentation is being prepared to send to Guinness to get it all verified, so it remains to be seen whether it's official or not, but it's an incredible feat either way!)

Christchurch Cathedral - November 2005

In true Kiwi style there are many stories emerging of neighbourhoods getting together to help each other, roaming crews of ex-army guys shifting rubble and clearing safe passages though the debris left by last weeks earthquake.

The damage caused by the quake will have an ongoing effect on the 350,000 people living in the city, with a third of the buildings now needing to be demolished and rebuilt and the famous landmark of the Cathedral (below) will never be the same.

I was fortunate enough to visit New Zealand in late 2005 and spent three fantastic weeks travelling around both islands in a campervan, seeing the wonderful place and meeting fabulously generous and friendly people.
My thoughts and prayers are with them.
